    Medium-chain fatty acids increased in rat tissues after carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) exposure or a balanced diet. However, combined CCl4 and diet led to a significant decrease in these fatty acids.

    Background:

    • Medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) play crucial roles in cellular metabolism and energy production.
    • Understanding the tissue-specific distribution and metabolic fate of MCFAs is vital for nutritional and toxicological studies.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) exposure and a "balanced" lipid diet on the levels of medium-chain fatty acids in various rat tissues.
    • To examine the combined effects of CCl4 and a balanced diet on MCFA concentrations.

    Main Methods:

    • Rats were administered CCl4 or a balanced lipid diet, or both.
    • Analysis of medium-chain fatty acid concentrations in muscle, lungs, pancreas, adipose tissue, and liver.
