    Summary

    Plasma renin activity is stable for three days at 4°C but decreases significantly at 24°C. Freezing or lyophilization may increase renin activity due to cold activation of prorenin.

    • Understanding sample stability under various storage conditions is crucial for reliable diagnostic results.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the stability of plasma renin activity under different storage temperatures and conditions.
    • To determine optimal pre-analytical handling procedures for plasma samples intended for renin activity assays.

    Main Methods:

    • Plasma samples from 22 hypertensive patients were stored at -20°C, 4°C, and 24°C, and in lyophilized form.
    • Plasma renin activity was measured using a standard assay.
    • Comparison of activity levels across different storage durations and temperatures.
