[Therapy of acute hemorrhage - the value of antacids]
Abstract:
In contrast to prospective studies demonstrating the efficacy of antacids in the prevention of stress ulcers there are only a few reports on the successful treatment of bleeding lesions with antacids. Although by a constant pH exceeding 5.4 acid-induced dissolution of thrombocyte aggregation can be avoided, the high amounts of antacids cause volume problems and side effects. No experience exists on the combination of formula diets with antacids in the treatment of acute hemorrhage.
