    Summary

    Buffalo/Mna rats with nephrotic syndrome (NS) show muscle weakness and elevated urinary creatine and cholesterol. These findings suggest skeletal muscle changes linked to abnormal lipid metabolism and hypoproteinemia in NS, distinct from muscular dystrophy.

    Background:

    • Spontaneous thymoma Buffalo/Mna (B/Mna) rats exhibit muscle fatigability and weakness.
    • Nephrotic syndrome (NS) has been recently observed in B/Mna rats, prompting investigation into potential links with muscle diseases.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate biochemical markers associated with muscle diseases and NS in B/Mna rats.
    • To compare B/Mna rats with the reference ACI strain for specific biochemical and physiological parameters.

    Main Methods:

    • Biochemical analysis of urinary creatinine, creatine, and serum enzyme activities (CPK, aldolase, GOT, GPT).
    • Measurement of serum total cholesterol, albumin levels, and assessment of proteinuria.
