    Background:

    • Cataract surgery involves microscopic visualization.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of microscope light intensity on visual acuity after cataract surgery.

    Main Methods:

    • 133 patients undergoing cataract surgery were analyzed.
    • Procedures were performed using microscopes with significantly different light intensities (high vs. low).
    • Postoperative visual acuity was correlated with light intensity, age, sex, extraction method, and intraocular lens use.

    Main Results:

    • Reduced visual acuity (20/40 or worse) was more frequent in patients operated under high-intensity light.
    • Increasing patient age was also associated with reduced postoperative visual acuity.
    • A correlation between high light intensity, older age, and poorer visual outcomes was observed.

    Conclusions:

    • High-intensity operating light may negatively impact visual acuity following cataract surgery.
    • Older patients appear more susceptible to reduced visual acuity under high illumination.
    • Further research is recommended to elucidate the mechanisms behind this association.
