Multiple meningiomas are rare benign brain tumors. This study presents two cases of multiple meningiomas without associated neurofibromatosis, highlighting their occurrence and surgical management.

    Area of Science:

    • Neurosurgery
    • Oncology
    • Neuropathology

    Background:

    • Meningiomas are common benign intracranial tumors, typically solitary.
    • Multiple meningiomas are rare, occurring in 1-2% of cases.
    • Previous reports often link multiple meningiomas to neurofibromatosis or acoustic neurinoma.

    Observation:

    • Two patients with multiple meningiomas, lacking stigmata of von Recklinghausen's disease, were treated.
    • Case 1: A 58-year-old female with a large right parietal tumor and three occipital nodules.
    • Case 2: A 61-year-old male with a left parietal convexity meningioma.

    Findings:

    • Histological examination confirmed all tumors in Case 1 were fibroblastic meningiomas.
    • Imaging revealed multiple lesions in both patients, with some feeding arteries identified via angiography.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Both patients underwent surgical resection of their multiple meningiomas.
  • Implications:

    • These cases expand the understanding of multiple meningiomas presentation.
    • Highlights the possibility of multiple meningiomas occurring independently of genetic syndromes.
    • Underscores the importance of thorough evaluation for multiple lesions even without typical associated conditions.
