    Background:

    • Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in men.
    • Early detection and monitoring of bone metastases are crucial for effective treatment.
    • Urinary hydroxyproline (HOP) is a marker of bone turnover.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate daily urinary hydroxyproline (HOP) levels in patients with advanced prostate cancer.
    • To compare HOP levels in prostate cancer patients with and without bone metastases.
    • To assess the utility of urinary HOP as a diagnostic and monitoring tool.

    Main Methods:

    • Collected daily urine samples from 26 patients with advanced prostate cancer and 15 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
    • Measured urinary hydroxyproline (HOP) levels in all participants.
    • Utilized bone scanning to confirm bone metastases in prostate cancer patients.

    • Urinary HOP levels were significantly higher in prostate cancer patients (69.58 mg/l/day with metastases, 22.55 mg/l/day without) compared to BPH controls (12.80 mg/l/day).

    • This method is sensitive for detecting small metastatic lesions and useful for therapy monitoring, even in resource-limited settings.
