Abstract:
Despite the long history of research into epilepsy, the mechanisms of the development of a paroxysm of generalized "peak-slow wave" discharges with a frequency of 3 fluctuations per sec are still unclear. An expanded clinical-electrophysiological examination of 36 patients showed that generalized disorders in the central nervous system were also accompanied by local changes. Important data were obtained during biotelemetric recording of the superficial EEG and stereoelectroencephalogram in patients in the process of carrying out various activities and in the period of paroxysms. It is concluded that there are different sites of paroxysm generalization due to the domination of either cortical or subcortical pathological foci.
