    Summary

    Lowering dialysate temperature during hemodialysis (HD) improves vascular stability in uremic patients. This study found that cooler dialysate maintained stable mean arterial pressure and enhanced cardiovascular stability, reducing intradialytic hypotension.

    Background:

    • Vascular instability and hypotension are common during hemodialysis for uremic patients.
    • Factors like catecholamines, plasma sodium, osmolality, and dialysate temperature influence intradialytic hemodynamic stability.
    • Dialysate temperature is a recently proposed factor affecting vascular stability.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the role of dialysate temperature in maintaining hemodynamic stability during hemodialysis.
    • To evaluate the effect of cooling dialysate on intradialytic vascular complications in patients prone to hypotension.

    Main Methods:

    • A hemodynamic study was conducted on 5 patients experiencing frequent intradialytic hypotension.
    • Systemic and pulmonary hemodynamic parameters were measured using thermodilution during both warm (W-HD) and cold (C-HD) hemodialysis.
