Abstract:
Electromagnetic hyperthermia (EMHT) a form of treatment half way between diathermocoagulation and radiotherapy appears to be an ideal physical method for enhancing the efficiency of oncological radiotherapy. Application techniques are described and dosing criteria are analysed. Clinically speaking, EMHT and RT reciprocity, "internal control", iatrogenic pathology, the connections between EMHT and chemotherapy and the possible association of EMHT and chemoembolisation of solid tumours are examined. In conclusion EMHT is seen as a significant development in Biomedical Thermology or a particular aspect of non-ionising radiology (NIR).
