    Summary

    Rodent muricide (mouse killing) behavior is significantly higher during dark periods compared to light periods. Food intake, but not water intake, covaried with muricide frequency in rats.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between muricide, eating, and drinking behaviors across different photic periods.
    • To examine the influence of a 12/12 hr light/dark cycle on these behaviors.

    • Studied muricide, food intake, and water intake in 108 rats across six photic periods.
    • Habituated subjects to a 12/12 hr light/dark circadian cycle.
