Some aspects of the pathophysiology of hypertrophic cardiopathies. An echocardiographic computerized study
Insights
This study reveals abnormal diastolic function in hypertrophic cardiopathies. Symmetric forms show better diastolic compliance than asymmetric ones, even in advanced stages.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Medical Imaging
- Pathophysiology
Background:
- Hypertrophic cardiopathies encompass diverse conditions like aortic stenosis and asymmetric septal hypertrophy.
- Understanding pathophysiological differences is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management.
- Diastolic dysfunction is a key feature in many heart diseases.
Purpose of the Study:
- To differentiate various hypertrophic cardiopathies pathologically.
- To assess diastolic function using advanced echocardiography.
- To compare diastolic compliance between symmetric and asymmetric forms.
Main Methods:
- Utilized a custom ECE (echocardiographic) digital system.
- Examined 35 patients with conditions including aortic stenosis, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, asymmetric septal hypertrophy, and systemic hypertension.
- Focused on evaluating diastolic function and compliance.
Main Results:
- Confirmed abnormal diastolic function across hypertrophic cardiopathies.
- Observed that diastolic compliance is less impaired in symmetric hypertrophic cardiopathies compared to asymmetric types.
- This difference persisted even in advanced clinical stages of symmetric forms.
Conclusions:
- Diastolic function is consistently abnormal in hypertrophic cardiopathies.
- Asymmetric hypertrophic cardiopathies exhibit more significant diastolic compliance impairment than symmetric forms.
- Echocardiography is effective in differentiating these conditions based on diastolic properties.
Abstract:
35 patients, of them 10 with aortic stenosis, 7 with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, 6 with asymmetric septal hypertrophy, and 12 with systemic hypertension were examined with the aim of a pathophysiological differentiation of various hypertrophic cardiopathies. The authors' own ECE digital echocardiographic system was used. The results attest to an abnormal diastolic function in hypertrophic cardiopathies. At the same time, the diastolic compliance is less affected in symmetric cardiopathies, even in their more advanced clinical stage, than in asymmetric ones.
