Epidemiologic approaches to dietary factors in cancer etiology

The role of epidemiologic studies in the identification and evaluation of dietary factors associated with altered cancer risk is assessed. Possible mechanisms by which dietary factors may influence cancer development are described. Research strategies for investigating diet and cancer are presented with emphasis on epidemiologic approaches. Methods of nutritional assessment of diet are reviewed and related to selected epidemiologic approaches.
