[Enterococcal meningitis]

104 cases of enterococcal meningitis from the literature of the last 35 years have been reviewed: 70% are pediatric patients, 30% are adults. Malformations or concomitant conditions favour the outbreak of the disease. Mixed infections are frequent (15%). The average lethality is about 40% with a variation of +/- 22% depending on the patients prior state of health. Treatment is still very difficult even with the latest antibiotics.
