Biliary cystadenomas are rare liver tumors. Ultrasound imaging revealed multilocular cystic lesions with features similar to ovarian or pancreatic cystadenomas.

    Area of Science:

    • Hepatobiliary Medicine
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Diagnostic Imaging

    Background:

    • Biliary cystadenomas are uncommon cystic neoplasms originating from the biliary epithelium.
    • These lesions can occur throughout the liver, presenting diagnostic challenges.

    Observation:

    • Three cases of biliary cystadenoma are presented, with lesions located in the left and right lobes of the liver.
    • Gray scale sonography and hepatic angiography were utilized for imaging evaluation.

    Findings:

    • Sonographic features included multilocular cystic lesions with septations and papillary projections, mimicking ovarian or pancreatic cystadenomas.
    • Angiography demonstrated hypovascularity with faint contrast enhancement in the mass walls and septa.

    Implications:

    Related Experiment Videos

    • Recognizing these sonographic and angiographic features aids in the preoperative diagnosis of biliary cystadenomas.
    • Accurate imaging is crucial for appropriate surgical planning and management of these rare liver tumors.
