    Summary

    Acute herpetic keratoconjunctivitis in rabbits caused partial obstruction of tear ducts. This dysfunction appears to stem from inflammation, not direct viral damage to the ductal epithelium.

    Background:

    • Herpetic keratoconjunctivitis is a common ocular infection.
    • The effect of this viral infection on tear drainage (canalicular function) is not fully understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate canalicular function during acute herpetic keratoconjunctivitis in a rabbit model.
    • To determine the mechanism of ductal obstruction during viral infection.
