    Speaking fundamental frequency (SFF) standard deviation and range are reduced in vocal fold paralysis patients compared to normal subjects. Other SFF measures and age did not differentiate between pathologic and normal groups.

    Background:

    • Speaking fundamental frequency (SFF) analysis is crucial for assessing voice disorders.
    • Understanding how laryngeal pathologies affect vocal characteristics is essential for diagnosis and treatment.
    • Previous research has explored various acoustic parameters in voice pathology, but specific SFF variations require further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between pathologic conditions and normal speaking fundamental frequency (SFF) characteristics in male subjects.
    • To determine which SFF parameters can differentiate between normal vocal function and specific laryngeal pathologies.

    Main Methods:

    • Eighty male subjects were divided into four groups: vocal fold paralysis, benign mass lesion, laryngeal cancer, and a normal control group (20 subjects per group).
    • Speaking fundamental frequency (SFF) characteristics were analyzed for each subject.
    • Statistical analysis was performed to compare SFF parameters between the groups.

    Main Results:

    • SFF standard deviation and semitone range were significantly reduced in patients with vocal fold paralysis compared to normal subjects.
