    Background:

    • IgA nephropathy (Berger's disease) is a primary glomerulonephritis.
    • The etiology of IgA nephropathy is not fully understood.
    • Genetic factors, particularly HLA antigens, are implicated in autoimmune diseases.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the association between specific Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) antigens and IgA nephropathy.
    • To identify potential genetic markers for susceptibility to Berger's disease.

    Main Methods:

    • HLA-A, B, and DR antigen typing was performed.
    • Analysis included 45 unrelated patients diagnosed with IgA nephropathy.
    • Statistical analysis was used to determine significant associations.

    Main Results:

    • A significant association was observed between HLA-DR4 and IgA nephropathy.
    • An unusual secondary association was identified with the HLA-A2-B12 antigen combination.

    Conclusions:

    • HLA-DR4 is a potential susceptibility factor for IgA nephropathy.
    • The A2-B12 antigen combination may also play a role in the pathogenesis or presentation of Berger's disease.
