Abstract:
Cimetidine, an effective gastric hydrogen receptor antagonist, is evaluated as a secretion eliminator in a routine double contrast upper-gastrointestinal study to improve areae gastricae visualization. One-hundred patients in a double-blind study used cimetidine or a placebo. Results suggest that acid secretion blockage with limited dosage has no advantage in micromucosal visualization.
