It permits detection, definition, and characterization of mass lesions outside of the urinary tract, extending the diagnostic yield of excretory urography. It can raise the diagnostic confidence level by providing direct visualization of a mass, minimizing reliance on indirect radiographic signs. TBO can reliably characterize a mass as hypovascular or avascular. While this does not guarantee benignity, such information can be helpful in distinguishing cystic and mixed lesions from solid lesions.
