    Summary

    Albumin supplementation in hypovolemic shock resuscitation increases serum albumin but lowers immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM, IgA). Steroid therapy did not alter immunoglobulin levels compared to controls, suggesting albumin impacts the immune response to shock.

    Background:

    • Hypovolemic shock resuscitation often involves fluid and protein administration.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of albumin and steroid supplementation on immunoglobulin levels (IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD) in severely injured patients with hypovolemic shock.
    • To compare immunoglobulin levels in supplemented patients versus control patients.
    • To determine if albumin supplementation alters the normal immunoglobulin response to shock.
