Failure to thrive as well as increased growth velocity may have different causes. Specific diagnostic evaluation has to be performed as soon as a delineation of the growth rate is observed. Examples are hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, celiac disease in depressed growth or congenital adrenal hypoplasia or pubertas praecox in enhanced growth.
