    Summary

Cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita (CMTC) is a rare vascular disorder. This study identified four new cases in Sydney, Australia, suggesting potential localized occurrence of this congenital condition.

    Area of Science:

    • Dermatology
    • Pediatrics
    • Medical Genetics

    Background:

    • Cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita (CMTC) is an exceptionally rare congenital vascular malformation.
    • Fewer than 60 cases of CMTC have been documented globally.
    • Understanding the epidemiology and geographical distribution of CMTC is crucial for further research.

    Observation:

    • Four pediatric cases of CMTC were observed in Sydney, Australia, between 1978 and 1979.
    • The patients' residences were geographically clustered within a 19.2-km radius.
    • The observed birth rate within this cluster was approximately 19,000 live births annually.

    Findings:

    • All four CMTC patients exhibited segmental involvement.
    • Early resolution of the vascular lesions was noted in all cases.
    • Three patients developed hemiatrophy; no other congenital anomalies were present.

    Implications:

    • The localized occurrence in Sydney may indicate potential environmental or genetic factors contributing to CMTC.
    • Further epidemiological studies are warranted to investigate geographical clusters.
    • This case series contributes to the limited understanding of CMTC's presentation and potential risk factors.
