[Statistical analysis of mortality from stroke in hospitalized patients]

The authors analysed mortality from brain strokes in 1366 patients hospitalized at the Department of Neurology, Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice and Zabrze and in the 8th Municipal Hospital in Katowice in the years 1970--1974. The number of cases with lethal outcome was 437. The mortality was highest in cases of cerebral haemorrhages, particularly in women. The mortality increased with increasing age and was highest in the first 24 hours of treatment.
