Diagnosing persistent light reaction involved a modified 8-methoxypsoralen-UVA (PUVA) schedule due to extreme UV sensitivity. This treatment allowed patients to resume normal outdoor activities after 8 years.

Background:

Persistent light reaction is a rare photodermatosis causing extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
Standard phototherapy protocols may be unsuitable for patients with severe photosensitivity.

Observation:

Two patients presented with persistent light reaction and extreme sensitivity to UV wavelengths.
A modified 8-methoxypsoralen-UVA (PUVA) treatment schedule was developed to accommodate their photosensitivity.

Findings:

The modified 8-methoxypsoralen-UVA (PUVA) schedule successfully managed the patients' condition.
Both patients experienced a significant improvement in their quality of life.

Implications:

This modified PUVA approach offers a viable treatment option for individuals with severe persistent light reaction.
