    Background:

    • Physiologic movements within the body can significantly influence computed tomography (CT) imaging.
    • Pulsations of the abdominal aorta cause measurable motion in retroperitoneal lymph nodes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To analyze the motion of retroperitoneal lymph nodes during CT scanning.
    • To determine the impact of lymph node motion on CT image quality and diagnostic accuracy.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of lymph node motion in 10 patients undergoing lymphography.
    • Phantom experiments simulating pulsating movements during CT scanning of a 10 mm object.

    Main Results:

    • Maximum transverse plane motion of retroperitoneal lymph nodes was measured at 2.5 mm.
    • Phantom experiments indicated that lymph node motion did not affect the reproduction of node size.

    Conclusions:
