Insights
Cholesterol and glucose levels in middle-aged men varied significantly over a year. These blood serum changes impact the assessment of interventions for ischemic heart impairment risk factors.
Area of Science:
- Biochemistry
- Epidemiology
- Cardiovascular Health
Context:
- Study examines blood serum cholesterol and glucose in 40-59 year old men in Kaunas city.
- Data collected during epidemiological examinations of ischemic heart impairments (IHI).
- Emphasizes the need for standardized testing and intralaboratory quality control.
Purpose:
- To analyze yearly variations in cholesterol and glucose concentrations in adult men.
- To understand how these fluctuations affect the evaluation of interventions for IHI risk factors.
Summary:
- Blood serum cholesterol and glucose levels exhibited distinct yearly alteration patterns in the studied male population.
- These variations highlight the importance of considering annual changes when assessing the effectiveness of risk factor interventions for IHI.
Impact:
- Findings suggest that annual variations in biomarkers must be accounted for when evaluating interventions targeting ischemic heart impairment risk factors.
- Provides crucial data for public health strategies aimed at cardiovascular disease prevention in urban male populations.
Abstract:
Concentrations of cholesterol and glucose were altered in blood serum of 40-59 years old men during a year. These data were obtained in course of an epidemiologic examinations of ischemic heart impairments (IHI) among the representative contingent of mene in the Kaunas city. Strict standardization of the tests and intralaboratory control of their accuracy were used. The patterns of alterations of cholesterol and glucose content were different during various years suggesting that variations in content of these substances during each year have to be considered in evaluation of efficiency of active influences on the risk factors on IHI.
