    Summary

    Pattern visual evoked responses were normal in dominant hereditary spastic paraplegia but abnormal in some sporadic cases. This suggests potential differences in the underlying pathology between these forms of the condition.

    Background:

    • Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of inherited neurological disorders.
    • Visual evoked responses (VERs) are electrophysiological tests that measure the brain's response to visual stimuli.
    • Abnormalities in VERs can indicate dysfunction in the visual pathways.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate pattern visual evoked responses (pVERs) in patients with dominant hereditary spastic paraplegia (dHSP) and sporadic cases.
    • To determine if pVERs can help differentiate between inherited and non-inherited forms of spastic paraplegia.
