    Summary

    Vigorous physical activity causes temporary increases in plasma melatonin in women. This effect was observed in both sedentary and endurance-trained individuals during exercise sessions.

    Background:

    • Melatonin is a hormone crucial for regulating sleep-wake cycles.
    • The relationship between exercise and melatonin levels is not fully understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of acute exercise on plasma melatonin levels.
    • To determine if endurance training alters the acute exercise-induced melatonin response.
    • To examine the temporal changes in melatonin following exercise.

    • Plasma melatonin was measured in seven women volunteers.
    • Participants underwent serial acute submaximal exercise tests over two months.
