[The use of viscous substances as stabilizers (author's transl)]

Viscous substances are important surgical tools for stabilizing otherwise unstable intraocular spaces and subcompartments. They increase the safety of a great variety of operations such as intraocular implants, extraction of subluxated lenses, keratoplasty, cyclodialysis, filtering procedures, vitrectomy, prevention of hemorrhages (as well as maintaining the patency of lacrimal pathways).
