    Summary

    Lowlanders (LL) experience reduced physical work capacity at high altitudes due to impaired cardiac performance. Furosemide administration did not improve this capacity in lowlanders at high altitude.

    • Understanding the underlying physiological mechanisms is crucial for addressing altitude-related limitations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the cardiac performance differences between lowlanders and highlanders.
    • To determine the impact of high altitude exposure on lowlanders' cardiac function and physical work capacity.
    • To assess the effect of furosemide on cardiac performance in lowlanders at high altitude.

    Main Methods:

    • Systolic time intervals were used to assess cardiac performance in healthy male lowlanders and highlanders during rest, submaximal, and maximal exercise.
