Diagnosis of lymphoma can be challenging, mimicking infectious diseases. A year-long investigation for infections preceded the correct diagnosis of Hodgkin

    Area of Science:

    • Dermatology
    • Oncology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Epithelioid granulomatous masses can present as localized dermal and subcutaneous lesions.
    • The differential diagnosis for such masses is broad, often including infectious etiologies.

    Observation:

    • Two patients presented with extensive, localized epithelioid granulomatous masses.
    • These clinical manifestations prompted a prolonged, year-long search for infectious organisms.

    Findings:

    • Despite extensive investigations for infections, the underlying diagnosis remained elusive.
    • Lymph node biopsy ultimately revealed Hodgkin's disease (a type of lymphoma) in both cases.

    Implications:

    • This case series highlights the importance of considering hematologic malignancies in the differential diagnosis of granulomatous skin lesions.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Lymph node biopsy is crucial for accurate diagnosis when infectious causes are not identified.
