This study reports a rare case of Kaposi sarcoma occurring with aplastic anemia, a combination not previously documented. The patient

    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Hematology
    • Dermatopathology

    Background:

    • Kaposi sarcoma is a vascular neoplasm.
    • Aplastic anemia is a rare bone marrow failure disorder.
    • Co-occurrence of Kaposi sarcoma with hematologic malignancies is known.

    Observation:

    • A 51-year-old patient presented with Kaposi sarcoma and aplastic pancytopenia.
    • Skin lesions showed livid papules and nodules.
    • Histopathology revealed endotheliomatous cell proliferation with infiltrative growth.

    Findings:

    • Cytostatic therapy for Kaposi sarcoma was contraindicated due to aplastic pancytopenia.
    • The patient succumbed to vascular failure with hemorrhagic diathesis.
    • This represents the first reported association between Kaposi sarcoma and aplastic anemia.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights a novel association in oncology and hematology.
    • Understanding the pathogenesis of Kaposi sarcoma may be advanced by studying rare co-occurrences.
    • Further research is needed to explore potential links between these conditions.
