This study describes a new syndrome of relapsing myalgia in two patients, characterized by eosinophilic inflammation in muscles. This condition, distinct from eosinophilic fascitis, warrants consideration in diagnosing eosinophilic myositis.

    Area of Science:

    • Neurology
    • Rheumatology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Eosinophilic myositis is a rare inflammatory muscle disease.
    • Differential diagnosis includes various inflammatory and infiltrative myopathies.

    Observation:

    • Two patients presented with relapsing myalgia and nonspecific inflammatory features.
    • Electromyography showed a myositic pattern in one patient.
    • Muscle biopsy revealed eosinophilic infiltrates in the perimysium, with peripheral eosinophilia in only one case.

    Findings:

    • Both patients experienced relapses after initial recovery.
    • Complete recovery was achieved spontaneously in one patient and with therapy in the other.
    • The observed features suggest a distinct syndrome of eosinophilic myositis.

    Related Experiment Videos

    Implications:

    • This newly identified syndrome should be included in the differential diagnosis of eosinophilic myositis.
    • Further research is needed to fully characterize this condition and its treatment.
    • Understanding this syndrome can improve diagnostic accuracy and patient management for eosinophilic myopathies.
