Insights
The Boehringer Ingelheim 18.5 G cannulae provide reliable, long-term venous access for infants and young children. This device ensures well-tolerated, trouble-free access during surgery and post-operative intravenous therapy.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric Surgery
- Medical Devices
- Vascular Access
Context:
- Establishing reliable venous access in pediatric patients is crucial for surgical and therapeutic interventions.
- Neonates and young children present unique challenges for venous cannulation due to anatomical and physiological differences.
Purpose:
- To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of the Boehringer Ingelheim 18.5 G cannulae for pediatric venous access.
- To assess the device's suitability for both intraoperative and postoperative intravenous therapy in infants and small children.
Summary:
- The Boehringer Ingelheim 18.5 G cannulae were utilized in pediatric patients aged 4 weeks to 5 years.
- The cannulae facilitated trouble-free and well-tolerated venous access.
- The device provided long-lasting access, proving effective during operations and subsequent intravenous treatments.
Impact:
- The study demonstrates the clinical utility of the Boehringer Ingelheim 18.5 G cannulae in a challenging pediatric population.
- This device offers a reliable solution for maintaining venous access in young children, potentially improving patient outcomes and reducing complications associated with repeated cannulation attempts.
Abstract:
Use of the Boehringer Ingelheim 18.5 G cannulae enabled us to ensure a trouble-free, well tolerated, long-lasting venous access in babies and small children between the ages of 4 weeks and 5 years, both at operation and, where necessary, for the period of post operative intra-venous therapy.
