An antireflux valve to prevent gross abdominal distension after jejuno-ileal bypass

A patient who had undergone a jejuno-ileal bypass procedure for morbid obesity subsequently presented with gross abdominal distension. Evidence is presented to suggest that the distension was due to reflux of intestinal contents into the bypassed bowel. A valve is described which controlled this reflux and prevented any further attacks of gross abdominal distension.
