[Effort phlebitis following slight injuries]

Sprain phlebitis may develop after slight traumatism. Anterior or concomitant lesions are almost always a contributory factor; these may be infectious, diathetic, anatomic or even hemodynamic, and produce vascular spasms originating in the sympathetic system. This explains why slight traumatism may cause sprain phlebitis.
