Functional gastrointestinal disorders represent a form of non-verbal language limited to humans. They do not always result from a primary psychological disturbance but may be the first symptoms of an organic disease. The functional disorders originating from the oral cavity, the esophagus, the stomach, and the small and large intestines are tabulated.
