Sudden infant death syndrome: helping bereaved parents talk with children

Management of sudden infant death syndrome must address the psychologic effect upon all family members. A child's level of cognitive development will determine the way in which the death is understood. There are guidelines for helping parents talk with children about what happened in a way appropriate to their own age.
