    Summary

Men treated for chronic bacterial prostatitis experienced persistent lower urinary tract obstruction. Surgical interventions, including bladder neck resection and incision, significantly resolved voiding complaints in most patients post-operation.

    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Andrology

    Context:

    • Chronic bacterial prostatitis can lead to lower urinary tract obstruction (LUO) post-treatment.
    • Obstructive voiding symptoms require further investigation and management after prostatitis resolution.

    Purpose:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of surgical interventions for lower urinary tract obstruction in men previously treated for chronic bacterial prostatitis.

    Summary:

    • This 6-year study followed 28 men under 50 with obstructive voiding complaints after chronic bacterial prostatitis cure.
    • Diagnostic methods included Meares test, ejaculate analysis, uroflowmetry, residual urine assessment, cystourethrography, and urethrocystoscopy.
    • Transurethral resection of the bladder neck was performed in 9 cases (32.1%), and transurethral incision of the vesical cervix in 19 cases (67.9%).

    Impact:

    • Postoperative follow-up showed 75-89% of patients were free from voiding complaints.
    • Surgical management effectively resolves obstructive voiding symptoms in men with a history of chronic bacterial prostatitis.
