[Specific fibre compositon of human hand and arm muscles]

The authors examined the fiber composition of the finger, hand, and arm muscles. It is established that the type of fiber composition is not influenced by the mechanical employment of the hand- and arm muscles. The fiber composition of the finger muscles, however, is different in the two hands, in that the amount of fiber type II is significantly higher than that of the fiber type I in the dominant hand. In case of the non-dominant hand the fiber type I is predominant.
