Summary

CD4-positive T cells play a key role in developing crescentic glomerulonephritis (GN). Depleting these cells significantly reduces glomerular damage and crescent formation in a rat model, highlighting their function beyond humoral immunity.

Background:

  • Glomerulonephritis (GN) is a kidney disease characterized by inflammation of the glomeruli.
  • Crescent formation is a hallmark of severe GN, leading to rapid kidney function decline.
  • The specific roles of immune cells, particularly T cells, in crescent formation are not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role of CD4-positive T cells in the development of glomerular crescent formation in a rat model of GN.
  • To determine if targeting CD4-positive T cells can mitigate the severity of crescentic GN.
