[Pseudomyxoma peritonei]

Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rather rare disease manifested by layers of mucinous and gelatinous material deposited upon peritoneum, intestinum, and omentum majus. Surgical therapy proved to be the best treatment with many patients requiring multiple laparotomies. Either chemo- or immuno-therapy may be an adjuvant treatment for individual patients. Long-term nutritional support given in the late stages of disease provides a better quality of life during this period.
