Abnormal intestinal motor patterns explain enteric colonization with gram-negative bacilli in late radiation

Impaired intestinal motility, specifically the intestinal migrating motor complex (MMC), is a key factor in bacterial overgrowth following abdominal radiotherapy. This overgrowth contributes to severe late radiation enteropathy.
