Area of Science:

  • Craniofacial anomalies
  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery
  • Pediatric genetics

Background:

  • Cleft lip, with or without cleft palate, presents with variable severity.
  • Microform cleft lip, or forme fruste, is characterized by subtle, often-repaired-appearing lip defects.

Observation:

  • This case report details a patient with a microform cleft lip.
  • The patient also exhibited a complete cleft of both the hard and soft palates.

Findings:

  • The simultaneous occurrence of microform cleft lip and a complete cleft palate is described.
  • This represents the first documented instance of this specific combination of orofacial clefting.

Implications:

  • This finding expands the understanding of cleft lip and palate spectrum.
