Central line dislodgment is a common issue in toddlers. A spandex/nylon bodysuit effectively prevented dislodgment in two active children, offering a promising solution for clinical use.

Area of Science:

  • Pediatric medical devices
  • Patient safety innovations

Background:

  • Central venous catheter (CVC) dislodgment is a frequent complication in pediatric patients.
  • Managing CVCs in highly active toddlers presents unique challenges.

Observation:

  • Two toddlers with a history of frequent central line dislodgment were managed using a spandex/nylon bodysuit.
  • The garment was designed to secure the CVC site and prevent accidental removal.

Findings:

  • The implementation of the spandex/nylon bodysuit completely eliminated central line dislodgment in both patients.
  • No adverse events or complications were associated with the use of the garment.

Implications:

  • This garment represents a simple, non-invasive method to improve CVC site security in pediatric populations.
