Context:

Achalasia is a primary esophageal motility disorder.
Laparoscopic surgery has expanded treatment options for achalasia.

Purpose:

To detail the technical principles of laparoscopic Heller myotomy.
To evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of this minimally invasive procedure for achalasia.

Summary:

Four patients with achalasia underwent laparoscopic Heller myotomy.
No intra-operative complications or conversions to open surgery occurred.
Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with a mean hospital stay of 5 days.

Impact:

Postoperative manometry confirmed normal lower esophageal sphincter pressure in all evaluated patients.
