Paediatric AIDS: first autopsy report from India

Abstract:
The first autopsy study of a child with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in India is reported. A 2-year-old girl with failure to thrive and pneumonia died in our hospital. Antibodies to HIV were detected in the serum by ELISA and Western blot techniques. The autopsy findings included precocious involution of the thymus, splenic atrophy, lymphoid interstitial pneumonia and cryptosporidiosis of the colon.
