Summary

Genetic variations in T-cell receptor beta variable (TCRBV) genes are unlikely to be a major cause of multiple sclerosis (MS). This study found no significant differences in TCRBV gene polymorphisms between MS patients and healthy individuals.

Background:

  • Previous studies suggested a link between T-cell receptor beta (TCRB) gene polymorphisms and autoimmune disorders, including multiple sclerosis (MS).

  • To investigate the role of T-cell receptor beta variable (TCRBV) gene polymorphisms in the susceptibility to multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • To map, identify, and sequence TCRBV genes within the implicated region and analyze their polymorphisms in MS patients and controls.

  • Sequencing of 14 TCRBV genes in six MS patients and six matched healthy controls.
