Background:

  • Hypothalamic hamartomas are rare congenital tumors.
  • These tumors can cause significant endocrine and neurological symptoms, including precocious puberty and gelastic seizures (laugh attacks).
  • The precise origin and cellular composition of hypothalamic hamartomas remain incompletely understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the cellular characteristics of hypothalamic hamartomas.
  • To examine the presence and distribution of Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LH-RH) neurons within these hamartomas.
  • To explore the potential developmental origins of hypothalamic hamartomas in relation to LH-RH neuron migration.

Main Methods:

  • Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging were performed on four patients.
